Featured Vendor - Blush Bridal Boutique

We have worked with Blush Bridal Boutique on a number of different occasions....  From sourcing locations for The Dunmora Diraries - Bridal Edition to helping on the set of The Empress Princess shoot with The Wedding Belles and The Wedding Ring - Vancouver Island back in January at The Fairmont Empress hotel.

(Woo!  That was a long sentence.)

We also had the pleasure of meeting both of these lovely ladies at The Victoria Bridal Fair - an event held annually at The Crystal Gardens.  These business women ooze a warmth and sophistication!

Emily Hull and Mary Logan originally met through a shared love of sewing.  They quickly became friends and were presented with the opportunity to purchase Blush Bridal Boutique shortly thereafter.  Looking for adventure and a challenge as well as a fresh change, the partnership was a match made in heaven and they haven't looked back since.

These women channel their love of sewing and all things pretty into a boutique that women in Victoria, BC, flock to for gowns and accessories to suit all occasions.

The Blush Bridal Boutique Mission

Blush Bridal Boutique is happily dedicated to showcasing the most staggeringly beautiful dresses to our lovely brides, and to provide completely fresh, sincere and committed service to each and every one of our customers.

We recently asked Emily and Mary a series of questions to better get to know them and their beautiful store.

What is your favourite part about working with brides to help them find their perfect wedding dress?

I love hearing each story as it unfolds throughout a session. Hearing someone recount their love is beautiful. We have days when we are moved to tears - days when we get hugs.

There is a moment that I am possibly addicted to.... When you're working with someone and you're both just cruising along and then suddenly they stand up on our little vintage crate - the soapbox - in a dress that is about to become theirs and they just break down!  It makes me teary just thinking of it!

I had this experience at Blush more than 6 years ago now, and it still feels so fresh.  It is the moment when you can actually see yourself walking down the isle to join your love.   All we can say is wow.

Tell us about the process of choosing specific lines and dresses for your store?  How do you decide which ones to carry?

We pick dresses that we think are beautiful.  It is the only way to do it: choose from the heart!  Mary & I have different but complimentary tastes so when we're choosing collections for our brides, we buy the ones that make us blush.  We imagine the perfect bride for every dress, we create elaborate wedding-scapes in our minds and we imagine the ideal accessories to compliment each look.

Speaking of dresses.... What are some of your favourite lines and why?

We love Martina Liana and Enzoani for their exceptional designs - be they ornately detailed or stunningly simple.  The more luxurious the fabric, the more in love we become!

You have owed Blush Bridal Boutique for five years.  Where do you see yourself in five years' time?

Super business-crafty-moms! We see ourselves at Blush, working with brides, designing the Blush house collection which is coming soon and of course, spending time with our growing families.

What is the dress of your life - the most important or amazing dress you have ever worn?

Emily: My wedding dress - Pronovias "Galilea".

I chose it before I had anything to do with Blush Bridal Boutique.  I was going to have a dress made and Mary suggested that I come by the store and try some dresses on.  She was working at Blush at the time.

I put it on and cried.  I then ordered it a couple of weeks later and I still have it.  And of course, I still love it.

I have this vision of doing something special with it.  I'd like to make my daughter, Nora, the most beautiful little fort (mini tipi style) out of my dress.  We could decorate it with the tiniest little white Christmas lights!  It would be her fairy fort.  A place where dreams are made and imaginations soar!

Also, another notable dress in my life is the beautiful linen reception dress Mary made for me.  It was a 70's style smock with a gorgeous cut-out back.  My husband loved it.  I felt so pretty in it.  I still have it and will wear it again for our 5 year anniversary which is quickly approaching.

Mary: I would have to say my wedding dress as well.  I made mine from pale pink silk and lace and felt so lovely in it!

I also made a going away dress that I changed into before leaving our reception.  It was crafted from a wedding dress I had bought in Montreal at a thrift store almost ten years before.  I couldn't pass it up - a heavy silk satin hand embroidered in light pink and real silver and gold.  I brought that dress with us on our honeymoon and wore it out to dinner!

What is your favourite famous dress?

Emily: I know this isn't a famous dress, but I have a crush on any dress Mary off Downton Abbey wears. Everything she wears is so pretty. I'm hooked on the show and Mary's wardrobe is one of the reasons.

Mary:  What about Lady Diana's wedding gown?  I know it's hysterically funny now but she was brave!  Not exactly a classic like Kate M, right?  She was more of a risk taker - so hats off to her!

What dress trends do you encourage all women to explore in 2012?

Emily: Colour and covering up a bit more than we've seen in the past.  I think it is so beautiful when women get married in something a bit more conservative (but STUNNING) and then change into a reception dress that is a bit more flirty and laid back for the party!

Mary:  I recommend that all women mix and match.  Pair your wedding gown with a little grey cardigan, put your bridesmaids in mismatched soft floral prints.  We encourage you to experiment while staying true to your personal style and have to fun!

As you can see, the ladies from Blush Bridal Boutique are incredibly approachable, fun and personable!  We love working with them and we hope you will enjoy shopping at their lovely boutique as well.   We highly recommend you check it out if you haven't already - and if you are a bride - make an appointment to work with them to find the most amazing dress of your life!

Dunmora Estates - The Diaries

The Dunmora Diaries - Fashion Edition officially launched yesterday on Style Struck - a popular style blog out of Vancouver, BC.  We really enjoyed working with this team and helping them source this beautiful home.

We thought we would take this opportunity to tell you a little more about Dunmora Estates

Dunmora Estate is a classic English Tudor revival home that was originally built in the 1920's. It was designed with care and exquisite attention by renowned Architect J. C. M. Keith and has recently been the subject of a very extensive restoration.

The original grandeur has been retained and the home now features efficient and modern details as well as the original beamed ceilings, French doors, panelled walls, high-end fittings and equipment, four fireplaces, seven bedrooms and six bathrooms.  As you can see in the behind the scenes video featured above, the grounds surrounding this property are incredible.  Located right on the water on the Sannich inlet, this home provides the type of cool calm and extreme privacy warranted for a king and queen.

We would like to thank Sotherbys Canada as well as the current owners of Dunmora for giving us exclusive access to this special property for our editorial.
Anyone who purchases this home - which we must mention is for sale - is incredibly lucky to live there.
It was a truly unforgettable experience.

Monday Inspiration - Boho Bridal Chic

These days, we’re loving the move toward looser, more sensual and textured bridal hairstyles that are part of the whole boho chic aesthetic.

Long, soft waves and curls, fishtail braids, crystal headbands and floral hair adornments are all signatures of this romantic style that is perfect for any occasion - especially weddings!

This type of hairstyle works best with a dress that is soft and slightly flowy on the body.  Boho brides often choose empire waist gowns that have lace or beaded overlays, ruffles or flounces.

If you find yourself drawn to this look, ask your hairdresser for loose waves or curls.  Request that he or she concenrate on building texture and volume and provide as many inspiration photos as possible!

It works for any face shape and is really beautiful and chic. We love!

Hot Pick Of The Week

Graphic Pillows

When thinking about decor, pillows are an easy, inexpensive and foolproof way to inject new flavor into your home.  Prices range from high-end to completely reasonable and you can event shop at a thrift store, throw your purchase in the wash and recover with a pattern of your choice!

Follow the trend this year with bright hues - ranging from neon to candy inspired colours like cherry and blueberry - and simply pair with them neutral tones for a modern and sophisticated result!

We love these orange and tangerine colours.  Especially given that this colour was voted the pantone colour of the year for 2012!

Have you heard of Cococozy?  It is a great website known for producing high quality pillows that can add a dose of chic to any room!  We have several of their products on our wishlist!
